David Chiriboga, PhD

1972, PhD, Human Development, University of Chicago

1964, BA, Psychology, Boston University

Dr. Chiriboga received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1972. He has served on the faculty at the University of California San Francisco and the University of Texas Medical Branch and currently is a professor, Department of Aging and Mental Health Disparities, Florida Mental Health Institute, University of South Florida. His work has three overlapping and continuing themes. The first, beginning with data collected in 1968 and followed up through 1997, involves the longitudinal study of the significance of stress exposure for mental health over periods of 20 or more years. The second, beginning in 1976, involves the longitudinal study of differential mental health disparities across minority and majority populations. His current work includes a statewide study of mental and physical health disparities in Florida, disparities in service utilization among Medicaid beneficiaries with Alzheimer's disease, as well as a state-contracted study of prevalence and best practices with regard to mental health disparities. The third, beginning in 1995, involves the use of technologies associated with distance education/telemedicine for health care and the training of health professionals.
